Installation Tip: Seal Door Glass Outer

If the portion of the seal that is on the outside of the car does not follow the contour of the door skink. We suggest performing the following techniques.

Warm the seal before installation (Warm rubber becomes much more compliant and will take the door's curvature more easily).

  • Leave the seal in direct sunlight for an hour or two, or gently warm it with a hair dryer. When using a hair dryer, apply only moderate heat and keep the dryer moving continuously. Heating an uninstalled seal is the safest approach, but a seal can also be gently warmed after installation to help it conform to the door's curvature. Although a hair dryer's temperatures are relatively low, use caution when warming an installed seal. Hold the dryer several inches away from the seal and painted door surface and avoid concentrating heat on any one area for an extended period.
  • Install it while warm, making sure every clip is fully seated.

Use temporary painter's tape

  • After clipping the seal in place, use strips of painter's tape every few inches to hold the lip down against the door for several days.
  • Tape the seal down along the door top using painter's tape every 3–4 inches, pulling it into the correct contour.
  • The combination of mild tension and warm temperatures often helps the rubber "learn" the shape.
